Music
Caribbean music as well as “non-caribbean” music being
made by Caribbean people. We are particularly interested in music under the
following fairly broad groupings:
- Soca
- Calypso
- Dancehall
- Reggae
- Rap
- Hip Hop
- Rock
- Pop
Note: dancehall artistes are called DJs and “singjays” in
dancehall culture. We’re referring to them simply as artistes to avoid
confusion.
Note: We’re calling Sashi, Sumfest, Sunsplash etc. as
Music Festivals, although they are often referred to as Beach Parties in Jamaica.
We cover live acts, music festivals, tour schedules, Interviews
with artistes, managers and other people in the music industry, live
performance reviews (including pics and links to artiste websites).
We want to announce the newest rhythms and the new dances.
We definitely want to make a point of emphasizing the focus on production and
rhythms that is a feature or dancehall music. When it comes to Soca + Calypso, we will need to be able
to get into the explanation and lyrical relevance of the songs. eg. gimme a
bligh was a rebuke of a journalist in TnT.
New music releases.Up and Coming / Buzzworthy artistes: which will include
feature articles on artistes / bands. This kind of coverage may be linked
either to a marketing deal or to banner advertising deals. Includes a profile,
an interview, links to music downloads, link to web-pages and the like.
We could possible cover a band like No Doubt, which is a “ska”
band and has collaborations with Bounty, Lady Saw and other Caribbean acts.
They also recorded their latest album in Jamaica. We should seek to write articles that improve the knowledge
of the music of the region. Not just the hot new stars, but the artistes,
musicians and bands that have helped the music reach its current stage. We will
also inform about what makes Caibbean music unique, the differences between the
musical genres themselves and the like.
We need to elevate the producers up to the level of the artistes,
as riddims are so integral to dancehall and becoming more-so in soca.
Parties
This aspect of Caribbean entertainment is unique in a
number of ways, particularly:
- the interaction that occurs between DJ or artist, the crowd and
music. (Call and response. I jump. You wave. etc.)
- the unique affiliation between individuals and the groups within which they party.
In this sense the party, fete and dancehall parallels the
interactivity of the web. We try to capture this throughout the “Parties”
section of BoomTribe.
We want to provide local coverage of the party scene in the
following territories:
- Barbados
- Jamaica
- London
- Miami

How to handle clubbing / weekly Activities:
We only cover a weekly event once, preferably on opening
night, because the same people will most likely keep coming back, and the same
pictures every time makes boring viewing. We want as many different faces as
possible.
-
cover the opening night, with pics
-
if it is an ongoing thing, just pick a night, make a proposal to the
sponsor, cover it and add it to our recurring activities in the calendar.
-
cover new bars and nightclubs - if they’re targeting young people.

not, fit into our core businesses. The articles are tied in to a show episode
