Membership and Login
Q. Can anyone join? A. Membership is open to everyone
everywhere, age 13 and older.
Q. What does it cost to join BoomTribe? A.
There is no cost to become a BoomTribe member.
Membership is totally free.
Q. Can I join if I don't have a credit card?
A. Yes,
Membership is free, so join up!
Q. I'm convinced. How do I join? A. To become a
BoomTribe member, start by filling in the Registration
Form. Completing the Registration Form provides you with
instant access
to many BoomTribe services.
Q. How will I know when my membership is going to
expire? BoomTribe membership does not
expire.
Username and Password
Q. Can I change my username?
A.
Your username cannot be changed. You can, however,
change your "Screen Name". This is your nickname and is seen
when you post on message boards and the like. If you
would still like to change your username, you can cancel
your old account and open a new account.
Q. What should I do if I have forgotten my username
or password (or both) A. Simply click the "Forgot your
password?" link and fill in the email address you
entered when you registered. A new password will be
created and emailed to that address. Just edit your
profile to change your password to something easier to
remember.
Registration Information
Q. How do I change the information I entered on registration?
A. By
clicking "Edit Profile" on the menu at the top of your
screen when you're logged into BoomTribe.
Banning / Acct. Closure
Q. How do I close my
BoomTribe account? A. There is a link to cancel your
membership within your profile page. You may also notify
us that you want to close your account via email and we
will cancel it for you.
Q. What would cause my BoomTribe account to be banned
or closed? A. Repeat violation of the BoomTribe
Community Standards will result in your account being
suspended or closed altogether. Internet Explorer 6.x
has changed the default handling of cookies resulting in
a situation where many of the websites on the Internet
will not work properly. To re-enable cookies, which are
used by this site to recognize you when you login, you
just need to change one setting in Internet Explorer.
Login Problems
Q. For some reason I can't login! What's wrong?"
A. For some users using older Internet Explorer
browsers, you will need to go into "Tools" and then the option labeled "Internet
Options". You will then see a dialog window with tabs
along the top. We are interested in the third tab
(labeled "Privacy"). Now click on "Sites", then add
BoomTribe.com under "Address of Website", then click "Allow".
You should now click "OK" to save your changes. At
this point cookies will now be enabled on your computer for
BoomTribe.com
and you will be able to login and enjoy the tremendous
membership benefits we offer.
This is necessary because the default setting for Internet Explorer is now to only accept
cookies from sites with a "Compact Privacy Policy".
Unfortunately this standard, developed in part by
Microsoft, is very new and not supported by many of the
sites on the Internet including this one.
Address Book
Q. How do I add someone to my Address Book?
A. You
will see a button called [Add] in the top right corner.
This will open a new Contact Sheet, which contains
various fields for information. You can enter as much
information as you choose and then complete the process
by clicking [Save Contact] at the bottom of the page.
Q. How do I manage/edit entries?
A. Select a page from the address book - for example,
clicking on the letter "A" will give a listing of all
individuals in your address book that have a last name
beginning with that letter. Other pieces of
information will be listed (if the you have entered
them) are First Name, Email, Home Phone,
and Work Phone. These all appear as menu items that are
clickable. You can sort according to each heading by
clicking on the heading. For example, by clicking on
First Name, the
listings will be sorted alphabetically by the first
names listed.
You can also choose to send an email to one of these
individuals by clicking on their email address - which
will open up an email box.
Clicking on the person's name will bring you to the
Contact Sheet for that person. If any changes must be
made, this is where to make them. Any of the fields can
be edited and changed so long as the [Save Contact]
button is clicked after all changes are made.
Q. How do I delete someone from my Address Book?
A. To delete an entry from an address book, simply
find the entry to be deleted and go their Contact Sheet.
At the bottom of the page there is a [Delete] button
that must be clicked, and then that person's entry will
be removed.

Q. Can I add bold text, italics or images to my
signature?
A. Yes you can. Use the [BOLD] [/BOLD] for
bold, [ITALICS] [/ITALICS] for italics, and [IMG] [/IMG]
to add an image to your signature. Between the IMG tags
should be the URL of the image and please make sure the
image is not too big or you will be given a warning.
Q. Can I edit my post once it has been posted in a
forum?
A. Go to your post in the forum in which you
placed the post and click the button with the Pencil to
edit your post. You will be asked to provide a reason
before you can successfully edit your post.
Q. How do I edit my signature?
A. You can add or edit
your signature by going to your account options by
clicking "Edit Your Profile" located on the left side
menu.
Q. How do I stop email notifications of new posts in
forums I have posted in?
A. You should see the menu "All
Forums | My Forums | Search | Options". Click on the
Options menu and you can turn on or off the email
notifications of new posts.
Q. How do I tell somebody about a thread that I find
particularly interesting?
A. Click on the email icon on
the right side just below the title bar of the thread.
Q. There is somebody whose posts I find offensive.
How do I block just these posts?
A. Users can "block"
offensive members' posts. You should be the first line
of defense, and dramatically reduces the need to police
the system. Click on "Options" when you're browsing the
forums.
Q. Why do the forums look funny in my browser?
A. At
present BoomTribe only supports Internet Explorer,
Mozilla and the Opera browser. Please let us know know
about your problem so we can fix it in the next version.
Q. Why is “@” replaced whenever I try to post it in
the forums.
A. We have set the system to auto-replace
the "@" symbol as a spam prevention measure. This will
prevent programs that crawl the Web for email addresses
from spamming users' email addresses.
Q. Why is there a yellow post at the beginning of
each thread? A. That is to indicate it is the
first post in a thread.
Q. Navigating between forums is cumbersome and
inconvenient. Is there a better way?
A. We are always
striving to make navigation in the forums better. In the
future we plan to add a navigation tree which you can
easily use to move around the directory hierarchy.

Q. What does the "Add to buddy list" do?
A. The buddy
list is a feature of the internal instant messaging
system and when you add a buddy, it will show up in your
messenger list and in your “My BoomTribe.com.

Q. How do I make my personalised BoomTribe.com
homepage my browswer start page?
A. Click
the control panel folder in your start menu and then go
to Internet options. Once clicked go to the general tab
and enter BoomTribe.com in the homepage section.
Newsletters
Q. How do I Subscribe?
A. To sign up for one of the
BoomTribe Newsletters, simply fill in the checkbox next
to the newsletter you're interested in. Then all you
have to do is click the "Update Subscription" button and
you're good to go!
Q. How do I unsubscribe?
A. If you want to be removed from
any newsletter, simply visit the Newsletters page,
uncheck the newsletter that you no longer receive and
click “Update Subscription”. You will no longer receive
that newsletter. Unsubscribe at any time!
Q. Should I be worried about spam? We guarantee you
that your email address remains private and will not be
shared with any third parties. You can rest assured that
you will not receive unsolicited email messages by
subscribing to a BoomTribe newsletter.
Q. How frequently do you send newsletters? A. This
depends on the newsletter. Please see the information
available on each individual newsletter by clicking
“More Info” under the newsletter.
Notepad
Q. What is the Notepad?
A. Similar but less formal than the To Do List, Notepad works like a small
notepad that you can use to jot down brief messages. It
appears in the start page as a drop-down menu
(containing the titles of the various entries) with a
[Jump] button next to the menu and the regular [Edit]
button in the top right corner. |
