PARISH INDEPENDENCE COMMITTEES
A Parish Independence Committee was established in each parish, with the primary objective of achieving maximum community participation in Independence. Committees are responsible for the encouragement and promotion of parish level activities. These activities are expected to accelerate during the month of November, and also within the month designated in each parish for celebratory activities to focus on unique aspects of their parish.
Parish Independence Committees are made up of a ten member executive which encourages community participation in all celebratory activities put on within the parish. This enthusiastic team of volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that each parish plans and implements a vibrant programme of events, and become involved in community based initiatives with the objective of increasing the public awareness of independence and nation-building.
PARISH AMBASSADORS PROGRAMME
The main aim of the Parish Ambassadors Programme is to create a strong and lasting sense of community commitment and nationalism among our young adults. Each parish must select a male and female Parish Ambassador between the ages of 18 and 30.
The persons chosen to represent each parish should be actively involved in their community/parish and exhibit a willingness to participate in a programme that seeks to uplift the nation, and assist in their own self-development.
The Parish Ambassadors Programme seeks to :-
- Develop in our youth a sense of responsibility, healthy self-esteem and pride in themselves, their communities and their nation.
- Foster better relations between communities and parishes.
- Acknowledge and highlight the fact that senior citizens are our foundation and our youth are our support.
- Sensitise Parish Ambassadors to the needs of their communities and the accomplishments of its people.
Parish Ambassadors while taking part in this developmental programme also have the opportunity to form lasting friendships other participants. It is observed that many Parish Ambassadors remain with the programme long after their tenure has ended. Performing in significant roles on the Parish Independence committees.
The Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat provides training workshops, and public exposure, as will as organizing a Retreat all aimed at grooming and preparing Parish Ambassadors for their duties within their communities.
